Weather:

High 80’s cooling off nicely in the evening.  I think that this has been the coolest July we have had since we have moved here.

Plantings:

I am taking a chance here and planting a fall crop of:

  • Spinach
  • Snap Peas
  • Beets

I hope the that weather will hold through September so that I will be able harvest this late crop. Next year I will be able to gage better when to plant the second season.

Activities:

Picked strawberries sliced them and will eat them for lunch during the week.  Picked zucchini and butternut squash; sliced and froze them using my foodsaver.   Cut back the herbs, they were getting pretty big.  I pulled the beets today, cleaned and boiled them I will freeze these as Richard likes beets, I don’t.

Miscellaneous Notes & Observations:

The tomatoes are coming along very well.  I would think in the next week or so I will have cherry tomatoes.  The beefstakes will take a little longer.

The zucchini and butternut squash are producing very well I think that I will have to start giving it away soon cause I can’t keep up with it.

I harvested my garlic this weekend.  It now has to dry for 3 weeks, then it will be ready to use.  Pretty Cool!

Weather:

Warm and sunny - Sunday it rained

Plantings:

Direct sowed a new batch of radishes 4 different types

Direct sowed Lettuce of various types

Planted cucumbers, zucchini and squash.

Activities:

Weeded and watered.  Mowed the front lawn.

Miscellaneous Notes & Observations:

The spinach is almost ready to harvest.  Strawberries are doing well except to see some berries soon.

The beans I planted did not do so well, think that I will pre-soak and try again.

Weather:

Over cast with the temperatures in the 60-70’s.  Rained some.  Monday was very windy.

Plantings:

Planted two tomato plants: Big Beef (73 days) and Sweet 100 Cherry (65 days).

Still have cucumbers and zucchini to plant will probably do that next weekend or during the week.

Activities:

Richard helped me re-brace the strawberry box. Put new netting over the strawberries to keep the birds out.  Weeded, cleaned up the tires from last years potato crop.  No potatoes this year haven’t had much luck with them.

Cleaned up my garden area in the workshop, if that is possible.

Miscellaneous Notes & Observations:

I was going to seed grass this weekend along the borders of the garden but by the time I got around to it, it was Monday and it was too windy.

Still need to work around the barn.  Have not finished cleaning the coop or painting the tact room.  I found some paint in the food storage locker that I am going to use.

I will have a lot of garlic coming in the next couple of months.
