I got my new rooster last night. It was kinda of funny because when I got home and went out to take a look at him I couldn’t find him. I came back after feeding the boys and did find him all cuddled up with older hens on the top of the nesting box.

I think that I am going to call him Romeo.

It appears that one of my chickens has been laying eggs up in the loft of the barn. We discovered 7 eggs up in there nestled in a nest fashioned out of old hay and twine. When I put the chickens in the coop this evening another egg was up in the loft. I suppose that I will have to clean out the excess hay and twine, then figure out how she is getting up there.
Something to do this weekend.

It has been 4 days without any sign of the raccoon. On Friday I was late closing up the coop and I think that the raccoon took advantage of that. Since then I am sure to get all the chickens in before sunset. Hopefully this weekend I can get the rest of the coop closed up so that the chickens can move back into the larger coop.

I am in the process of adding aside that will give you an idea of how many eggs I am getting from the chickensk. You have to remember only five are laying now and that they are only just six months old. The younger chickens are just about two and half months old, so they have about four months to go before they start to lay.

I sold my first dozen eggs to a gentleman at work. Hopefully he will be coming back for more.

Black AustralorpThe chicks are a month and a half old now. They are really getting big. There are six Black Australorp, three Sex-Link [yellow] and one chick that I am not sure of. It was supposed to be a Black Australorp but it defenitly is not.
