The Longest Week
Richard had major surgery on 6/4/08. He had some complications which meant that he spent a little longer in the hospital than we planned. He is home now but, it has been a long week. On top of that Richard’s mother had a heart attack the Monday before Richard went into surgery and she ended up in the hospital also, having double bypass surgery.
Richard is on the mend and his mother will be getting out of the hospital today. Needless to say, the stress is wearing. Things are looking up so we will hope that it continues to go well for both Richard and his mother.
We seem to have turned the corner on summer and it looks like we are about to begin racing into it. My spinach is ready to be harvested. I did pick some earlier this week, I need to pick the rest today. I am going to try and blanch and freeze it. I have this nifty food saver gadget that vacuum seals.
My indoor/outdoor thermometer show that is it 46° outside, a little chilly to go out yet, so I’ll wait awhile. My plan for the day is to:
- Mow at the least the front lawn. It is wildly long.
- Harvest the rest of my spinach.
- I have had my zucchini and squash plants covered, so I think it is now safe to uncover them.
- Blanch and freeze the spinach.
- Go to the library and get Richard some more books to read.
