Tomorrow will be the 1st of April usually by this time the snow has be gone for a couple weeks and I am happily looking forward to planting Spinach and Snap Peas.     I guess this year April Fool’s is on me and my gardening.   Not going happen this year.  I will be lucky to get them in before month’s end.  Strawberries 3/31/08 @ 6:00pm

The picture at the left are my strawberries.  They are under about a foot of snow, still.  I am hoping that this week will see some melt off and that I may be able to get to them this weekend.  If not I am going in anyway and start to clear the snow off of them.  I took this picture this evening around 6:00pm

Damn, I just looked out the window and it is snowing again.  Probably won’t do much, if it was warmer it would just be a spring shower.  The temperatures are supposed to up to the 50’s by the weekend.

I got another shocker this evening when I went out to collect eggs and feed my chickens. They were gone!  Nothing but feathers!  Sunday morning the boys were out chasing a fox.  I suppose the fox had a tasty meal of my chickens.  Very stupid of me not to do something to protect them when I knew that that fox was around.  So now I have to figure out if I want to get more chicks and start over again.  I am going to think about that for a while.  I just might wait until later in the summer to do that or I may decide not too at all.

Other than that not much is going on around here, I am heading to California the end of April to visit Carole.  By the time I get back we should be will into spring and I can get started back on the garden.  I was thinking since I will be traveling and that I will get a late start that I could spend the season getting things in better shape for next year.  I do love the gardening, and part of the fun is all the planning and building so I may invest more time in that this year.  And if I decide to get more chickens I will have to find a way to protect a little better. Stuff to think about as the snow slowly melts.
