Another tree stump bites the dust
Filed Under Country Life | Leave a Comment
All summer Richard has
been ripping out tree stumps. This stump is just past the hay shed, about 20 feet. This is about the 7th stump Rich has ripped out this summer.
He has started taking out an stump close to this one. He has also been trimming the trees, taking the branches up to about 10 feet, clearing out the under growth. It is really nice, and of course a great place to walk.

a walk in the woods
Filed Under Country Life | Leave a Comment
Every evening Richard and I take a walk in the back woods of our property. Richard has spent a lot of time out there clearing trees and removing under brush.
In the spring, once he is able to he mows paths. They start at the car port where the picture to the left was taken and go on behind the house to the hay barn. At the hay barn if you take a right you can walk the path along the property line in the back - then round the corner and take the path through the middle of the trees.
The dogs love the walk and it gives them some exercise after being in the house all day. We usually stop by and check on the chickens and some nights we walk up to the vegetable garden to see how things are up there. This is truly a pleasure to be able to take the “boys” for a walk without the worry of other dogs or cars.
It is truly a beautiful piece of property, Richard’s hard work on the back end has given us a quite haven to enjoy on these summer evenings. We both enjoy the walk and the dogs as they travel the landscape as they have never been there before, each evening they find something new and interesting to smell, run after or watch. As for Richard and I we just enjoy the dogs and the peace.

Weather:
It continues to be warm during the day 90° to mid 80°. We have had very little rain this summer which I do not not believe that unusual. Our spring was drier than usual which has lead to a dry summer. It seems that we are having more brush fires.
It is now getting lighter later in the morning, it is also getting a little cooler at night. We are looking at just over a month before the last frost.
Plantings:
none
Activities:
Since the weather has been so warm I have just been keeping up with the watering. The tomatoes are ripening and the zucchini is just unmanageable it is growing so fast; I have started cutting up and giving it to the chickens. I have started to get cucumbers. The shallots are growing well as are the leeks. Carrots are coming along well, and I think that I will have a good crop of basil. The pumpkins are doing well and I have about 3 or 4 that will be large enough to pick and crave.
Miscellaneous Notes & Observations:
I am pleased with how well the garden has done this year. Each year my knowledge increases a little and the garden is a little more successful. I think that I still need more raised beds, maybe next year.
The chickens continue to produce about 12 days a day.
