Weather:
As we move into summer the daily temperatures have ranged from the mid sixties to low eighties. The 15 day forecast is predicating that by the first of July we will be into the 90’s.
Plantings:
The perennials I ordered arrived on 6/8/07, Carole and I planted them the next day. They seem to be doing ok. We also planted the sunflowers that I started. This will be the first year that the flower bed hasn’t been over ran with weeds, meaning I have the upper hand on the weeds. On 6/9/07, we planted more radishes and my peppers (they are small and I don’t know how they will grow.) We planted the rest of the marigolds in the vegetable garden.
Activities:
I weeded the vegetable garden today, mostly the asparagus and raspberry plants. Put more dirt in the potatoes, Carole and I went down to Les Schwab and got a lot of used tires. I have been putting tires on earlier and filling them as the potatoes grow up. I moved three wheelbarrows of dirt up to the tires today. On Sunday I fertilized the plants by the barn.
Miscellaneous Notes & Observations:
I have just one raspberry plant left from the dozen that I planted last year. I weeded it and watered it well, it does have quiet a few berries on it. I have 5 asparagus from last year, there might be more, not really sure. I don’t know what will happen with them, I weeded them and turned the soil around them. The first butterstick zucchini is growing. The snap peas are snapping and should be ready to pick with a few days.
At the bank we get what are called “spirit points”. I received enough points to order the sink. It is great fun and quiet useful in washing off veggies before bringing them in kitchen.
I started collecting the cedar shingles for fire wood. They are great fire starters and I want to have enough to last thru the winter.
