I got my new rooster last night. It was kinda of funny because when I got home and went out to take a look at him I couldn’t find him. I came back after feeding the boys and did find him all cuddled up with older hens on the top of the nesting box.

I think that I am going to call him Romeo.

Weather:
It has been cold still yet, the days are growing shorter you can see it and feel it.  It is rather depressing.  There have been periods of both sun and cloud cover.  For awhile this afternoon I thought it might snow.

Plantings:
None

Activities:
We bought the tree and decorations down this morning.  The tree is up but waiting for the trains to be setup.

Miscellaneous Notes & Observations:
I tried to get something for the chickens water so that it won’t freeze.  They suggested a heated dog water bowl but were all out will have some on Friday.

I bought a rooster from the lady at the feed store.  She will bring him down to the store on Tuesday.  Asked Richard to pick him up.  This should be interesting.

Attempted to bake bread this weekend.  I made some basic sourdough started on Saturday night.  Today I made a loaf of bread - don’t think that I have this down yet.  Will try again soon.

Weather at post time:

  • Temperature: 18°F
  • Wind: N at 5 mph
  • Visibility: 10 miles

Weather:
Temperatures in teens to mid twenties. No wind, no sun except late this afternoon for a while. The roads were good.

Plantings:
None

Activities:
No outside activities.

Miscellaneous Notes & Observations:
I think some of the younger chickens have started to lay eggs. I had 5 eggs today. That kinda of freaks me out cause they are only 3.6 months old and I think that is young for them to start laying. I will watch them over the weekend and see if I can figure out what is going on.
