Sunday - Invasion of the Raccoon(s)

It’s hard to believe that this cute little animal has killed 6 of my chickens in the last week. Friday night the raccoon got my poor little Rooster and two other hens. It appears that the raccoon has gotten 3 others earlier. My chicken count is now at 21. At least the raccoon did not get my 5 older chickens so I am still getting eggs.

Needless to say, I have spent the weekend fortifying my chicken coop against invaders. What a job, I am not the handiest person with a hammer so it took most of the two days.On a positive note the surviving chickens are doing really well and the younger chickens are getting bigger every day. The older chickens have come out of their shell with all the young chicks around and generally all are getting along well.

It has been a beautiful fall weekend with the daytime high in the 60’s. The nights are cooling off to about the mid 20’s. Hopefully the weather will hold a couple of more weekends until I get the coop secured and the garden cleaned up.
